Know the Rules
TSA has extensive rules about what you can and cannot take in your carry-on and checked bags, including how much and what kinds of liquids are allowed. When in doubt, visit www.tsa.gov to find out more.
Make Your Luggage Easy to Recognize
There are a lot of black bags out there! Consider making your bag more easily identifiable with colored yarn/ribbon, a personal bag tag, or better yet, make use of your ETSI-provided bright green bag tag!
Always Know Where Your Bags Are
Be mindful of your luggage at all times, especially in public spaces. You are responsible for everything you take with you, so stay aware.
Airplane Tips
Most flights do not offer meals on board. Pack a snack or meal if you tend to get hungry on longer flights. Download content on your smartphone to watch in-flight, and don't forget your earphones/AirPods. Follow all airline rules about cellular device usage.
Spending Money
Most of our trips cover daily expenses like food, accommodations, and attraction tickets. While not necessary, your student may want additional spending money for souvenirs, treats, Starbucks/Dutch Bros., etc. We suggest approximately $20/day. Options include cash, debit card, Apple Pay, and pre-paid credit cards.
Day Bag
We encourage students to use the bright green day bag provided by ETSI for water, sunscreen, snacks, and phone. We walk a lot on tour. Remember, every ounce counts — don't bring anything you're not willing to carry around all day.
Dress in Layers
Weather can change in an instant, especially on the East Coast. Dressing in layers is the easiest way to plan for the unexpected — prepare for warm days and cooler nights.
Jewelry and Accessories
Keep it simple. Every extra piece is one more thing that has to go through security screening at airports and many attractions. Jewelry and accessories are also easy to misplace or leave behind.
Makeup and Styling Equipment
Every minute of morning prep is a minute less of sleep — and trust us, you will be tired! Keep your morning routine as simple as possible. Most hotels have hair dryers available.
Toys, Games, Electronics
If you can live without it, don't bring it! Extra items cause delays and are more weight to carry around. Trust us, you will have plenty to do on your trip!
